Method and apparatus for providing interactive applications with media content delivery services

A non-transitory, machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:

• streaming media content from a content streaming source;
• applying a bitrate limit while concurrently downloading information associated with metadata provided in the media content from an application data source, wherein the bitrate limit prevents the concurrently downloading of the information from interfering with streaming of the media content;
• generating display content based on the information;
• and
• displaying the display content within an application area of a display screen.

A method, comprising:

• downloading and displaying, by a processing system including a processor, media content from a content streaming source;
• extracting, by the processing system, metadata from the media content;
• providing, by the processing system, the metadata to an application, wherein the application:
• applies a bitrate limit while concurrently downloading information associated with the metadata during the downloading of the media content, wherein the bitrate limit prevents the concurrently downloading of the information from interfering with the downloading of the media content, generates display content based on the information, and displays the display content within an application area of a display screen.
