Abstract
Systems and methods for a multi-primary color system for display. A multi-primary color system increases the number of primary colors available in a color system and color system equipment. Increasing the number of primary colors reduces metameric errors from viewer to viewer. A six-primary color system includes Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta primaries. The systems of the present invention maintain compatibility with existing color systems and equipment and provide systems for backwards compatibility with older color systems.

A system for converting a multi-primary color system for display, comprising:
- a set of image data, wherein the set of image data includes an original bit level, a first set of color channel data, and a second set of color channel data;
- an image data converter;
- at least one display device;
- and
- a standardized transport format;
- wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the set of image data for display on at least one display device, and wherein the image data converter is in communication with the at least one display device;
- wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the original bit level of the set of image data to create an updated bit level;
- wherein the standardized transport format is operable to receive the first set of color channel data and the second set of color channel data as a combined set of image data, wherein the combined set of image data has a combined bit level equal to the original bit level.
A system for converting a multi-primary color system for display, comprising:
- a set of image data, wherein the set of image data includes an original bit level, a first set of color channel data and a second set of color channel data;
- an image data converter;
- at least one display device;
- a standardized transport format;
- and
- a set of Session Description Protocol (SDP) parameters, wherein the set of SDP parameters is modifiable;
- wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the set of image data for display on at least one display device, and wherein the image data converter is in communication with the at least one display device;
- wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the original bit level of the set of image data to create an updated bit level;
- wherein the standardized transport format is operable to receive the first set of color channel data and the second set of color channel data as a combined set of image data, wherein the combined set of image data has a combined bit level equal to the original bit level of.
A system for converting a multi-primary color system for display, comprising:
- a set of image data, wherein the set of image data includes an original bit level, a first set of color channel data, and a second set of color channel data;
- an image data converter, wherein the image data converter includes a digital interface, wherein the digital interface is operable to encode and decode the set of image data;
- at least one display device;
- and
- a standardized transport format;
- wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the set of image data for display on at least one display device, and wherein the image data converter is in communication with the at least one display device;
- wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the original bit level of the set of image data to a new bit level;
- and
- wherein the standardized transport format is operable to receive the first set of color channel data and the second set of color channel data as a combined set of image data, wherein the combined set of image data has a combined bit level equal to the original bit level.
