Abstract
A battery management system includes a low-power chip that allows battery management system, or components thereof, to alternate between operational states. Operational states may include a first state, a second state, a third state, and the like. A method of operation by a battery management system for an electric aircraft is also provided.
Claims20
A battery management system for an electric aircraft, the system comprising:
- a plurality of sensors configured to detect a plurality of measurement data corresponding to at least an operating condition of a battery module;
- and
- a control circuit communicatively connected to the plurality of sensors and configured to monitor the operating condition of the battery module as a function of the plurality of measurement data, wherein:
- the control circuit is configured to transition from a first state and a second state upon identifying a state transition criterion as a function of the measurement data;
- the control circuit, when in the first state, operates at a first duty cycle and communicates with a first subset of the plurality of sensors;
- and
- the control circuit, when in the second state, operates at a second duty cycle and communicates with a second subset of the plurality of sensors, wherein:
- the second duty cycle is distinct from the first duty cycle;
- and
- the second subset is distinct from the first subset.

A method of operation by a battery management system for an electric aircraft, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a plurality of sensors, measurement data corresponding to at least an operating condition of a battery module;
- identifying, by a control circuit communicatively connected to the plurality of sensors, a state transition criterion as a function of the measurement data;
- and
- transitioning, by the control circuit, from a first state and a second state;
- wherein the control circuit, when in the first state, operates at a first duty cycle and communicates with a first subset of the plurality of sensors;
- and
- wherein the control circuit, when in the second state, operates at a second duty cycle and communicates with a second subset of the plurality of sensors, wherein:
- the second duty cycle is distinct from the first duty cycle;
- and
- the second subset is distinct from the first subset.
