Abstract
Apparatus and methods are described including identifying that a subject suffers from sleep apnea. Positive airway pressure (PAP) is applied to the subject via a mask placed on a face of the subject. A respiratory-related parameter of the subject is sensed, while the mask is on the face of the subject, and a need of the subject for respiratory support is assessed, responsively to the respiratory-related parameter. In accordance with the assessed need, the mask is configured to regulate the PAP provided to the subject's face. Other applications are also described.
Claims18
A method comprising:
- identifying that a subject suffers from sleep apnea;
- applying positive airway pressure (PAP) to the subject via a mask placed on a face of the subject;
- sensing a respiratory-related parameter of the subject while the mask is on the face of the subject;
- assessing a need of the subject for respiratory support responsively to the respiratory-related parameter;
- and
- in accordance with the assessed need, configuring the mask to regulate the PAP provided to the face, by moving a portion of the mask, with the pressure of air provided by an air source that provides the PAP, to change a flow path of air into and out of the mask, wherein configuring the mask to regulate the PAP comprises regulating a distance of the mask from the face of the subject.
A method comprising:
- identifying that a subject suffers from sleep apnea;
- applying positive airway pressure (PAP) to the subject via a mask placed on a face of the subject;
- sensing a respiratory-related parameter of the subject while the mask is on the face of the subject;
- assessing a need of the subject for respiratory support responsively to the respiratory-related parameter;
- and
- in accordance with the assessed need, configuring the mask to regulate the PAP provided to the face, by moving a portion of the mask, with the pressure of air provided by an air source that provides the PAP, to change a flow path of air into and out of the mask, wherein configurating the mask to regulate the PAP comprises, in response to detecting a need for respiratory support, unblocking a vent hold so that air supplied to the mask flows into the mask.
An apparatus comprising:
- a source of positive airway pressure (PAP);
- a mask, coupled to the PAP source, and configured to be placed on a face of a subject;
- a sensor configured to sense a respiratory-related parameter of the subject;
- a control unit, configured to:
- assess a need of the subject for respiratory support responsively to the respiratory-related parameter, and
- in accordance with the assessed need, configure the mask to regulate the PAP provided to the face, by moving a portion of the mask, with the pressure of air provided by the source of positive airway pressure, to change the flow path of air into and out of the mask, wherein the control unit is configured to regulate the PAP by regulating a distance of the mask from the face of the subject.
An apparatus comprising:
- a source of positive airway pressure (PAP);
- a mask, coupled to the PAP source, and configured to be placed on a face of a subject;
- a sensor configured to sense a respiratory-related parameter of the subject;
- a control unit, configured to:
- assess a need of the subject for respiratory support responsively to the respiratory-related parameter, and
- in accordance with the assessed need, configure the mask to regulate the PAP provided to the face, by moving a portion of the mask, with the pressure of air provided by the source of positive airway pressure, to change the flow path of air into and out of the mask, wherein the control unit is configured to regulate the PAP by, in response to detecting a need for respiratory support, unblocking a vent hole so that air supplied to the mask flows into the mask.
