Abstract
Techniques to customize a media processing system are described. A media processing system is described capable of integrating a large set of heterogeneous electronic devices into a single integrated system with enhanced navigation capabilities and automated configuration services. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

An apparatus comprising:
- a processing component to comprise circuitry;
- a display interface coupled to the processing component;
- and
- a memory coupled to the processing component, the memory to store a personalization module executable by the processing component, the personalization module, when executed by the processing component, cause the circuitry of the processing component to:
- identify a user of a media processing device;
- retrieve a user profile associated with the user from a user profile database, the user profile comprising indications of an implicit viewing preference identified based on activity of the user and indication of an explicit viewing preference specified by the user;
- select, based in part on the user profile, a plurality of media objects for multiple heterogeneous media sources accessible by the media processing device;
- retrieve media information for one or more of the plurality of media objects;
- generate a custom user interface view to include the plurality of media objects and media information;
- animate a portion of the retrieved media information to form an animated user interface background for the custom user interface view;
- and
- send the custom user interface to an output device via the display interface.

- identifying a user of a media processing device;
- retrieving a user profile associated with the user, the user profile comprising indications of an implicit viewing preference identified based on activity of the user and indication of an explicit viewing preference specified by the user;
- selecting a set of media objects for multiple heterogeneous media sources accessible by the media processing device based on the user profile;
- retrieving media information for one or more of the selected media objects;
- generating a custom user interface view for the user with the set of media objects and associated media information;
- and
- animating a portion of the retrieved media information to form an animated user interface background for the custom user interface view.

An article comprising a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium containing instructions that when executed, by a processor, enable the processor to:
- identify a user of a media processing device;
