Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for recommending media content to users with disabilities. In response to determining that a user has a disability, a type of the disability is determined. A media content item to recommend to the user is determined, among a plurality of media content items, based on the determined type of disability and a favorability factor of the media content item for the determined type of disability. The favorability factor of the media content item corresponds to an ability of a user with the determined type of disability to comprehend the media content item. An identifier of the determined media content item is generated for presentation.
Claims16
A method of recommending media content to users with disabilities, the method comprising:
- determining that a user has a disability;
- in response to determining that the user has a disability, determining a type of the disability comprising hearing impairment;
- determining a media content item to recommend to the user, among a plurality of media content items, based on the determined type of disability comprising hearing impairment and a hearing impairment favorability factor of the media content item, wherein each hearing impairment favorability factor is based on a ratio of a duration of scenes of the media content item determined to be easily capturable in subtitles to a total duration of scenes of the media content item,
- wherein a scene determined to be easily capturable in subtitles does not comprise fast dialogue, several characters speaking, or a high rate of frame changes with corresponding dialogue;
- and
- generating for presentation an identifier of the determined media content item,
- wherein selection of the identifier causes presentation of the media content item including a modification optimized for the determined type of disability.
A system of recommending media content to users with disabilities, the system comprising:
- a memory storing instructions;
- and
- processing circuitry configured to execute the instructions stored in the memory to:
- determine that a user has a disability;
- in response to determining that the user has a disability, determine a type of the disability comprising hearing impairment;
- determine a media content item to recommend to the user, among a plurality of media content items, based on the determined type of disability comprising hearing impairment and a hearing impairment favorability factor of the media content item, wherein each hearing impairment favorability factor is based on a ratio of a duration of scenes of the media content item determined to be easily capturable in subtitles to a total duration of scenes of the media content item,
- wherein a scene determined to be easily capturable in subtitles does not comprise fast dialogue, several characters speaking, or a high rate of frame changes with corresponding dialogue;
- and
- generate for presentation an identifier of the determined media content item,
- wherein selection of the identifier causes presentation of the media content item including a modification optimized for the determined type of disability.
