Animation modification for optical see-through displays

A device comprising:

• a display;
• a non-transitory memory;
• and
• one or more processors to:
• receive a request to display a first animation of a virtual object exhibiting a response characteristic;
• determine a metric characterizing an amount of processing power for the device to display the first animation in an optical see-through display mode;
• in response to a determination that the metric exceeds a threshold associated with the device, select a second animation of the virtual object exhibiting the response characteristic;
• and
• display, on the display, the second animation.

A non-transitory memory storing one or more programs, which, when executed by one or more processors of a device with a display, cause the device to:

• receive a request to display a first animation of a virtual object exhibiting a response characteristic;
• determine a metric characterizing an amount of processing power for the device to display the first animation in an optical see-through display mode;
• in response to a determination that the metric exceeds a threshold associated with the device, select a second animation of the virtual object exhibiting the response characteristic;
• and
• display, on the display, the second animation.
