System and methods for dynamic generation of object storage datasets from existing file datasets

A computer program product comprising one or more computer readable storage media, and program instructions collectively stored on the one or more computer readable storage media, the program instructions comprising instructions configured to cause one or more processors to perform a method comprising:

• in response to identifying a match between a file and at least one policy, update, by the one or more processors, details of a container in an object namespace of a file system, where the object namespace of the file system stores object-based representations of files within the file system;
• create, by the one or more processors, a symbolic link to the file in the object namespace of the file system;
• and
• update, by the one or more processors, a database to identify the symbolic link and the details of the container.

A system, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• logic integrated with the processor, executable by the processor, or integrated with and executable by the processor, the logic being configured to:
• in response to identifying a match between a file and at least one policy, update details of a container in an object namespace of a file system, where the object namespace of the file system stores object-based representations of files within the file system;
• create a symbolic link to the file in the object namespace of the file system;
• and
• update a database to identify the symbolic link and the details of the container.
