Methods and apparatus to facilitate write miss caching in cache system

A system comprising:

• a central processing unit to output a write command corresponding to a memory address;
• a main cache storage to:
• output a first set of data in response to a second set of data to be stored in the main cache storage;
• and
• output a set of write miss information that includes write data based on the write command being associated with a miss in the main cache storage;
• a victim cache storage, wherein:
• the victim cache storage includes a first portion operable to store sets of data evicted from the main cache storage and a second portion operable to store sets of write miss information;
• and
• the victim cache storage is to:
• store the first set of data in the first portion based on the first set of data being evicted from the main cache storage;
• store the set of write miss information in the second portion based on the write command being associated with the miss in the main cache storage;
• and
• service a second command from the central processing unit directed to the write data of the set of write miss information.

A method comprising:

• receiving a write operation from a processor;
• determining that the write operation produces a miss in a first cache storage of a first cache level;
• in response to the miss in the first cache storage, storing a set of write miss information associated with the write operation to a second cache storage of the first cache level, wherein the second cache storage includes a first portion for storing a first set of data evicted from the first cache storage and a second portion for storing the set of write miss information;
• receiving a second operation from the processor;
• servicing the second operation using the set of write miss information stored in the second cache storage;
• in response to a second set of data to be stored to the first cache storage, evicting the first set of data from the first cache storage to make room for the second set of data;
• and
• storing the first set of data to the first portion of the second cache storage.
