Abstract
A network interface device comprises a programmable interface configured to provide a device interface with at least one bus between the network interface device and a host device. The programmable interface is programmable to support a plurality of different types of a device interface.
Claims21
A network interface device comprising:
- a programmable interface that comprises a programmable device, the programmable interface configured to:
- provide a first set of one or more instances of device interfaces and, during operation of the network interface device, to change the first set of one or more instances of device interfaces provided by the programmable interface to a second set of one of more instances of device interfaces, wherein the change from the first set to the second set of one or more instances of device interfaces comprises the programmable interface being configured to, at least one of:
- i) remove at least one instance of device interface from the network interface device, during operation of the network interface device, and ii) add at least one instance of device interface from the network interface device, during operation of the network interface device,
- wherein each instance of device interface is with at least one bus, wherein the at least one bus is provided between the network interface device and a host device,
- the programmable interface being programmable to:
- support a plurality of different types of a device interface during operation of the network interface device;
- and
- wherein the programmable interface comprises a scheduler configured to schedule access to the at least one bus for each instance of device interface.
A data processing system comprising a host device and a network interface device, said network interface device comprising:
- a programmable interface that comprises a programmable device, the programmable interface configured to:
- provide a first set of one or more instances of device interfaces and, during operation of the network interface device, to change the first set of one or more instances of device interfaces provided by the programmable interface to a second set of one of more instances of device interfaces,
- wherein the change from the first set to the second set of one or more instances of device interfaces comprises the programmable interface being configured to, at least one of:
- i) remove at least one instance of device interface from the network interface device during operation of the network interface device, and ii) add at least one instance of device interface from the network interface device during operation of the network interface device,
- wherein each instance of device interface is with at least one bus, wherein the at least one bus is provided between the network interface device and a host device,
- the programmable interface being programmable to support a plurality of different types of a device interface during operation of the network interface device;
- and
- wherein the programmable interface comprises a scheduler configured to schedule access to the at least one bus for each instance of device interface.
A method comprising:
- Programming a programmable interface that comprises a programmable device to:
- provide a first set of one or more instances of device interfaces and, during operation of a network interface device, to change the first set of one or more instances of device interfaces provided by the programmable interface to a second set of one of more instances of device interfaces, the changing from the first set to the second set of one or more instances of device interfaces comprising at least one of:
- i) removing at least one instance of device interface from the network interface device during operation of the network interface device, and ii) adding at least one instance of device interface from the network interface device during operation of the network interface device,
- wherein each instance of device interface being with at least one bus, and wherein the at least one bus is provided between the network interface device and a host device, the programmable interface being programmable to support a plurality of different types of a device interface during operation of the network interface device;
- and
- scheduling access to the at least one bus for each instance of device interface.
A non-transitory computer readable medium encoded with instructions, in which the instructions when executed on at least one processor enable the at least one processor to execute the steps of:
- programming a programmable interface that comprises a programmable device to:
- provide a first set of one or more instances of device interfaces and, during operation of a network interface device, to change the first set of one or more instances of device interfaces provided by the programmable interface to a second set of one of more instances of device interfaces, the changing from the first set to the second set of one or more instances of device interfaces comprising at least one of:
- i) removing at least one instance of device interface from the network interface device during operation of the network interface device, and ii) adding at least one instance of device interface from the network interface device during operation of the network interface device,
- wherein each instance of device interface being with at least one bus, and wherein the at least one bus is provided between the network interface device and a host device, the programmable interface being programmable to support a plurality of different types of a device interface during operation of the network interface device;
- and
- scheduling access to the at least one bus for each instance of device interface.
