A method for ensuring service for virtual desktops supported by a regional datacenter and a secondary datacenter orchestrated by a control plane to allow a desktop client agent to access a desktop from a primary desktop pool of the regional datacenter, wherein the control plane includes configurations and definitions required by the regional datacenter and the secondary datacenter to manage the desktop, the configurations and definitions including configurations and definitions for a virtual network, clusters of gateways, and data storage, wherein a first fabric region is created within the primary regional datacenter by applying the configurations and definitions required to manage the desktop from the control plane, the first fabric region including a virtual network, clusters of gateways, and data storage within the first regional datacenter in accordance with the applied configurations and definitions;
- and wherein a second fabric region is created within the secondary regional datacenter by applying the configurations and definitions for a virtual network, clusters of gateways, and data storage from the control plane, the expansion fabric region including a virtual network clusters of gateways, and data storage within the secondary regional datacenter in accordance with the applied configurations and definitions, the method comprising:
- creating a copy of the desktop from the primary desktop pool via the control plane;
- accepting an activation via the control plane when a disaster event occurs;
- creating the desktop in a secondary desktop pool of the secondary datacenter from the copy;
- and
- directing the desktop client to the secondary desktop pool to access the desktop from the secondary regional datacenter.
