Abstract
A memory controller controls a memory device including a plurality of memory blocks. The memory controller is configured to: control the memory device to store data in a first area among areas of the memory device using a single level cell method, wherein the data are corresponded to a write booster request which is received from a host, perform a wear leveling operation, based on a size of the data stored in the first area, a program-erase count of each of memory blocks of the first area, and a number of free blocks in the memory device and form a mapping relationship between a logical block address, which is received from the host, and a physical block address corresponding the first area.
Claims16
A memory controller for controlling a memory device including a SLC buffer in which data are stored using a single level cell program method among areas of the memory device, the memory controller including a write booster controller configured to:
- receive one or more write booster requests from a host,
- control the memory device to store data corresponding to the write booster requests in the SLC buffer using the single level cell program method,
- perform a wear leveling operation of the SLC buffer if a difference in size between data currently stored in the SLC buffer and data previously stored in the SLC buffer exceeds a predetermined value.
A memory system comprising:
- a memory device configured to include a SLC buffer which are programmed using a single level cell (SLC) method and normal memory blocks which are programmed using a non-SLC method;
- and
- a memory controller configured to receive one or more write booster requests from a host, to store data corresponding to the write booster requests in the SLC buffer and to perform a wear leveling operation on the SLC buffer if a difference in size between data currently stored in the SLC buffer and data previously stored in the SLC buffer is equal to or greater than a predetermined size.
