Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention utilize mobile devices to provide information on a user's behaviors during transportation. For example, a mobile device carried by a user can be used to detect and analyze driving behavior. The mobile device can further be used to provide alerts based on driving behavior and to encourage and track modification of driving behavior.
Claims15
A method comprising:
- identifying a user of a mobile device as a driver of a vehicle;
- receiving motion data from at least one sensor of the mobile device;
- correlating movement of the mobile device to a first driving trip in the vehicle based on the received motion data;
- monitoring manipulation of the mobile device by the user in the vehicle using the at least one sensor of the mobile device;
- computing a first overall driver score based on the user of the mobile device and a first driving score associated with the first driving trip, wherein the first driving score is computed using at least one driving event associated with a positive or negative behavior;
- providing a behavior notification to the user of the mobile device, wherein providing the behavior notification comprises:
- providing a first sensory alert that indicates a positive feedback responsive to determining that the first overall driver score is greater than a threshold;
- and
- providing a second sensory alert that indicates a negative feedback responsive to determining that the first overall driver score is less than the threshold;
- computing a second overall driver score based on the user of the mobile device and a second driving score associated with a subsequent trip;
- and
- adjusting a subsequent behavior notification based on a comparison of the first overall driver score and the second overall driver score.

A mobile device comprising:
- a memory;
- a motion data unit;
- and
- a processor coupled to the memory, wherein the processor is configured to perform operations including:
- identifying a user of the mobile device as a driver of a vehicle;
- receiving motion data from the motion data unit of the mobile device;
- correlating movement of the mobile device to a first driving trip in the vehicle based on the received motion data;
- monitoring manipulation of the mobile device by the user in the vehicle using the motion data unit of the mobile device;
- computing a first overall driver score based on the user of the mobile device and a first driving score associated with the first driving trip, wherein the first driving score is computed using at least one driving event associated with a positive or negative behavior;
- providing a behavior notification to the user of the mobile device, wherein providing the behavior notification comprises:
- providing a first sensory alert that indicates a positive feedback responsive to determining that the first overall driver score is greater than a threshold;
- and
- providing a second sensory alert that indicates a negative feedback responsive to determining that the first overall driver score is less than the threshold;
- computing a second overall driver score based on the user of the mobile device and a second driving score associated with a subsequent trip;
- and
- adjusting a subsequent behavior notification based on a comparison of the first overall driver score and the second overall driver score.
