Printing apparatus and control method therefor

A printing apparatus comprising:

• a printhead including a plurality of nozzles each configured to discharge ink, a plurality of energy generating elements respectively provided in the plurality of nozzles and each configured to generate energy used for discharging the ink from a corresponding one of the nozzles, and a plurality of detection elements provided in correspondence with the plurality of energy generating elements, wherein each detection element detects a signal when a corresponding nozzle discharges ink;
• and
• a determination unit configured to determine a status including a liquid discharge failure status of a target nozzle based on the signal.

A method for controlling a printing apparatus, the printing apparatus comprising a printhead including a plurality of nozzles each configured to discharge liquid, and a plurality of energy generating elements respectively provided in the plurality of nozzles and each configured to generate energy used for discharging the liquid from a corresponding one of the nozzles, the method comprising:

• obtaining information concerning a signal indicating a status of a target nozzle and information concerning a signal indicating a status of a nozzle close to the target nozzle output by the printhead;
• and
• determining a liquid discharge status for the target nozzle based on the information concerning the signal indicating the status of the target nozzle and the information concerning the signal indicating the status of the nozzle close to the target nozzle.

A method for controlling a printing apparatus, the printing apparatus comprising a printhead including a plurality of nozzles each configured to discharge ink, a plurality of energy generating elements respectively provided in the plurality of nozzles and each configured to generate energy used for discharging the ink from a corresponding one of the nozzles, and a plurality of detection elements provided in correspondence with the plurality of energy generating elements, wherein each detection element detects a signal when a corresponding nozzle discharges ink, the method comprising:

• determining a status including a liquid discharge failure status of a target nozzle based on the signal.
