Abstract
A filter assembly includes a canister housing closable by a lid and containing a removable and replaceable filter element cartridge. The lid is part of the filter element cartridge and a single unitary component therewith, such that removal of the filter element cartridge also removes the lid, and replacement of the filter element cartridge also replaces the lid.

A method for removing and replacing a filter element cartridge from a canister housing comprising providing a canister housing closable by a lid and containing a removable and replaceable filter element cartridge, providing said lid as a part of the filter element cartridge and a single unitary component therewith, removing said lid and concomitantly said filter element cartridge from said canister housing by moving an attachment member of said filter element cartridge engaging said lid and extending axially into a hollow interior of said filter element cartridge from a locked position to an unlocked position, and replacing a new lid and concomitantly a new filter element cartridge in said canister housing.
