Abstract
The present invention relates to the intravaginal use of sex steroid precursor (e.g. DHEA) for the reduction of the incidence or recurrence of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The dosage of sex steroid precursor is limited to 25 mg per day or less. Further administration of selective estrogen receptor modulator is disclosed for the above-reduction.
Claims33
A method of reducing the incidence or the recurrence of breast cancer in postmenopausal women comprising administering, to a human female in need of such reduction, a sex steroid precursor selected from the group consisting of dehydroepiandrosterone, 4-androstene-3,17-dione and androst-5-ene-3β,17β-diol, wherein said sex steroid precursor is administered intravaginally at a therapeutic amount of 25 mg per day or less.
A method of reducing the incidence or the recurrence of breast cancer in postmenopausal women comprising administering, to a human female in need of such reduction, a sex steroid precursor selected from the group consisting of dehydroepiandrosterone, 4-androstene-3,17-dione and androst-5-ene-3β,17β-diol, wherein said sex steroid precursor is administered orally at a therapeutic amount of 100 mg per day or less.
A method of reducing the incidence or the recurrence of breast cancer in postmenopausal women comprising administering, to a human female in need of such reduction, a sex steroid precursor selected from the group consisting of dehydroepiandrosterone, 4-androstene-3,17-dione and androst-5-ene-3β,17β-diol, wherein said sex steroid precursor is administered topically at a therapeutic amount of 400 mg per day or less.
