Abstract
Methods for forming an implantable layer onto a staple cartridge are disclosed.
Claims19
A method of applying an implantable layer to a staple cartridge body comprising the steps of:
- obtaining a staple cartridge body including staple cavities;
- heating a polymeric material, wherein the heated polymeric material comprises a first heated polymeric material;
- and
- forming an implantable layer by continuously flowing, from a dispenser, an amount of the heated polymeric material toward the staple cartridge body such that the implantable layer is formed over the staple cavities, and wherein said continuously flowing step comprises accelerating a second heated polymeric material with the first heated polymeric material toward the staple cartridge body, wherein the first heated polymeric material is different than the second heated polymeric material, and wherein the implantable layer is configured to compensate for variations in tissue properties when implanted within a patient during a surgical procedure.

- heating a second polymeric material, wherein the first polymeric material is different than the second polymeric material;
- and
- creating an implantable layer by continuously applying, from a dispenser, an amount of the first heated polymeric material in a flow with the second heated polymeric material directly onto the staple cartridge body such that the implantable layer is formed over the staple cavities, wherein the implantable layer is configured to compensate for variations in tissue properties.
