Abstract
An electromagnetic (EM) probe for monitoring one or more biological tissues. The EM probe comprises a cup shaped cavity having an opening and an interior volume, a circumferential flange formed substantially around the cup shaped cavity, in proximity to the opening, at least one layer of a material, for absorbing electromagnetic radiation, applied over at least one of a portion of the circumferential flange and a portion of the outer surface of the cup shaped cavity, and at least one EM radiation element which performs at least one of emitting and capturing EM radiation via the interior volume.
Claims18
A printed circuit board (PCB) electromagnetic (EM) probe for monitoring at least one biological tissue, comprising:
- a plurality of layers fabricated one on top of the other to form a cup shaped cavity having an opening and an interior volume,
- the plurality of layers comprising:
- a conductive top layer forming a top of the formed cup shaped cavity from a conductive material,
- at least one middle layer comprising a dielectric substrate and underneath an etched antenna
- configured for at least one of emitting and capturing EM radiation, and
- a bottom layer comprising a dielectric substrate;
- and
- a plurality of via holes passing via at least some of the plurality of layers and filled with a conductive material for forming a plurality of lateral walls of the formed cup shaped cavity.
A method for fabricating a printed circuit board (PCB) electromagnetic (EM) probe for monitoring at least one biological tissue, comprising:
- fabricating a plurality of layers one on top of the other to form a cup shaped cavity having an opening and an interior volume, the plurality of layers comprising:
- a conductive top layer forming a top of the formed cup shaped cavity from a conductive material,
- at least one middle layer comprising a dielectric substrate and underneath an etched antenna configured for at least one of emitting and capturing EM radiation, and
- a bottom layer comprising a dielectric substrate;
- drilling a plurality of via holes via at least some of the plurality of layers;
- and
- filling the plurality of via holes with a conductive material for forming a plurality of lateral walls of the formed cup shaped cavity.
