Evaluation period in multi-panel user equipment

A method of wireless communication at a network entity, comprising:

• transmitting one or more reference signals to a user equipment (UE);
• determining a number of panels of the UE or a number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously during communications with the network entity based on one or more quality parameters of the one or more reference signals, wherein determining the number of panels of the UE or the number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously comprises receiving, from the UE, an indication of at least one of the number of panels of the UE or the number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously through one or more combinations of Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH), Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) and Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH);
• and
• receiving an uplink signal from a UE at a timing, wherein the timing is based on a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle configuration and a scaling factor, wherein the scaling factor is based on the number of panels of the UE, or the scaling factor is based on the number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously during communications with the network entity.

An apparatus for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• a memory configured to store instructions;
• and
• one or more processors communicatively coupled with the memory, wherein the one or more processors are configured to execute the instructions to:
• establish a first time period to evaluate one or more quality parameters of one or more reference signals, wherein the first time period is based on a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle configuration and a scaling factor, wherein the scaling factor is based on a number of panels of the UE, the scaling factor is based on a number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously, or the scaling factor is based on both;
• transmit, to a network entity, an indication of at least one of the number of panels of the UE or the number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously through one or more combinations of Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH), Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) and Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH);
• determine a quality parameter of a beam or a cell based on the one or more quality parameters of the one or more reference signals;
• determine whether the one or more quality parameters of the one or more reference signals exceeds a quality threshold;
• and
• transmit, at a timing based on the first time period, an uplink signal to a network entity based on the determination of whether the one or more quality parameters of the one or more reference signals exceeds the quality threshold.

An apparatus for wireless communication at a network entity, comprising:

• a memory configured to store instructions;
• and
• one or more processors communicatively coupled with the memory, wherein the one or more processors are configured to execute the instructions to:
• transmit one or more reference signals to a user equipment (UE);
• determine a number of panels of the UE or a number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously during communications with the network entity based on one or more quality parameters of the one or more reference signals, wherein to determine the number of panels of the UE or the number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously the one or more processors are configured to receive an indication of at least one of the number of panels of the UE or the number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously through one or more combinations of Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH), Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) and Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH);
• and
• receive an uplink signal from a UE at a timing, wherein the timing is based on a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle configuration and a scaling factor, wherein the scaling factor is based on the number of panels of the UE, or the scaling factor is based on the number of beams that the UE monitors simultaneously during communications with the network entity.
