Abstract
A power converter and a method of operation thereof is disclosed including an input, an output, a sensor unit, a switched power converter, and a processor module. The power converter may convert an input power into an output power. The power converter may sense real-time measurements of the input power and the output power to determine a real-time calculated efficiency. The power converter may chop the input power into sized and positioned portions of the input power based on a plurality of determined operating parameters. The power converter may determine the operating parameters based on the real-time calculated efficiency and on a plurality of other operating factors/conditions.

An electronic power converter comprising:
- first circuitry configured to periodically harvest first portions of an input waveform, wherein the first portions of the input waveform are inhomogeneously-sized and inhomogeneously-positioned;
- second circuitry configured to convert the harvested first portions of the input waveform into an output;
- third circuitry configured to measure a power of the harvested first portions of the input waveform;
- fourth circuitry configured to measure a power of the output;
- the first circuitry further configured to periodically harvest second portions of the input waveform based on the measured power of the harvested first portions of the input waveform and based on the measured power of the output, wherein the second portions of the input waveform are inhomogeneously-sized and inhomogeneously-positioned;
- and
- the second circuitry configured to convert the harvested second portions of the input waveform into the output.
A method performed by an electronic power converter, the method comprising:
- periodically harvesting, by first circuitry, first portions of an input waveform, wherein the first portions of the input waveform are inhomogeneously-sized and inhomogeneously-positioned;
- converting, by second circuitry, the harvested first portions of the input waveform into an output;
- measuring, by third circuitry, a power of the harvested first portions of the input waveform;
- measuring, by fourth circuitry, a power of the output;
- periodically harvesting, by the first circuitry, second portions of the input waveform based on the measured power of the harvested first portions of the input waveform and based on the measured power of the output, wherein the second portions of the input waveform are inhomogeneously-sized and inhomogeneously-positioned;
- and
- converting, by the second circuitry, the harvested second portions of the input waveform into the output.
