Abstract
An electronic device may include a first display pipeline that may output image data via an output path. The electronic device may include first frame merge circuitry coupled to the output path. The electronic device may also include a first multiplexer coupled to the first frame merge circuitry and to the output path. The first multiplexer may transmit the image data from the output path to an electronic display, and, in response to a first control signal associated with the first frame merge circuitry generating a merged output, the first multiplexer transmits the merged output to the electronic display.
Claims20
An electronic device, comprising:
- an electronic display comprising a plurality of display pixels configured to present an image based at least in part on image data;
- and
- a first display pipeline configured to process first image data, wherein a first subset of the plurality of display pixels receive the processed first image data;
- a second display pipeline communicatively coupled to the first display pipeline and configured to process second image data, wherein a second subset of the plurality of display pixels receive the processed second image data, and wherein the second display pipeline is configured to process the second image data based at least in part on a first status signal received from the first display pipeline after transmitting a second status signal to the first display pipeline at least in part by:
- performing a first image processing operation on the second image data;
- after performing the first image processing operation, latching the second status signal;
- in response to latching the second status signal, transmitting, via the second display pipeline, the second status signal to the first display pipeline;
- receiving the first status signal from the first display pipeline;
- in response to receiving the first status signal, latching the first status signal;
- and
- determining to perform a second image processing operation on the second image data based at least in part on the first status signal and the second status signal;
- selectively enabled frame merge circuitry configured to receive the processed first image data from the first display pipeline and the processed second image data from the second display pipeline and configured, when enabled, to merge the processed first image data and the processed second image data to generate a merged video stream;
- and
- a control system configured to enable the frame merge circuitry in response to determining to transmit the merged video stream to the electronic display.
A method of operating a control system, comprising:
- determining to adjust an operational mode of a first display pipeline and an operational mode of a second display pipeline;
- receiving a first status signal from the first display pipeline indicative of a current state of the first display pipeline, wherein the first status signal is generated based at least in part on a current state of the second display pipeline and the current state of the first display pipeline exchanged as part of a handshaking operation performed by the first display pipeline and the second display pipeline;
- receiving a second status signal from the second display pipeline indicative of the current state of the second display pipeline, wherein the second status signal is generated based at least in part on the current state of the first display pipeline and the current state of the second display pipeline as part of the handshaking operation;
- determining that the first status signal and the second status signal indicate readiness of the first display pipeline and the second display pipeline for the adjustment;
- and
- in response to the first status signal and the second status signal indicating readiness for the adjustment, transmitting a control signal to adjust the operational mode of the first display pipeline and the operational mode of the second display pipeline at a synchronized time.
An electronic device, comprising:
- a first display pipeline configured to transmit first image data via a first output path;
- a second display pipeline configured to transmit second image data via a second output path;
- first frame merge circuitry coupled to the first output path and the second output path, wherein the first frame merge circuitry is configured to generate a merged output stream based at least in part on the first image data and the second image data;
- and
- second frame merge circuitry;
- a first multiplexer coupled to the first frame merge circuitry, the second frame merge circuitry, and to a third output path, wherein:
- the first multiplexer transmits the merged output stream from the third output path to an electronic display;
- and
- in response to a first control signal associated with the first frame merge circuitry generating the merged output stream based at least in part on the first image data and the second image data, the first multiplexer transmits the merged output stream to the electronic display;
- and
- a system controller configured to:
- determine a distance between an input to the electronic display and the first multiplexer;
- and
- determine which of the first frame merge circuitry and the second frame merge circuitry to instruct to generate the merged output stream based at least in part on the distance.
