Systems and methods for recognition of user-provided images

A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a mobile device to perform object characteristic identification operations, comprising:

• obtaining image data of an object, the image data being in a first color space;
• converting the image data from the first color space to a second color space;
• modifying a value of a brightness channel of the converted image data, wherein modifying the value of the brightness channel comprises scaling the brightness channel value according to a formula having a summation of a scaled input brightness value and a scaled reference value, the scaled input brightness value and the scaled reference value being scaled according to different scaling values;
• reconverting the modified image data to the first color space;
• identifying at least one object characteristic of the object using the reconverted image data and a machine learning model trained to identify the at least one object characteristic using training data comprising object image data obtained in the first color space and modified in the second color space;
• and
• displaying an indication of the identified at least one characteristic.

A method for object characteristic identification, comprising:

• obtaining image data of an object;
• identifying at least one object characteristic of the object using the image data and a machine learning model, wherein the machine learning model is trained to identify the at least one object characteristic based on training data comprising object image data that is:
• obtained in a first color space;
• and
• modified in a second color space by scaling a brightness channel value according to a formula having a summation of a scaled input brightness value and a scaled reference value, the scaled input brightness value and the scaled reference value being scaled according to different scaling values;
• and
• displaying an indication of the identified at least one characteristic.
