Abstract

Affinity-based listing recommendations are created and used in a public data exchange. Listings can be evaluated against one another for affinity or similarity such that users working with a particular dataset can be presented with other datasets that share an affinity. Affinity can be determined from both the dataset metadata as well as information from the dataset content. Calculation of affinity scores can be pre-computed and stored, in advance of use, or determined on-the-fly. Presentation of most-similar listings can be deterministic, can contain randomization, can employ time-decay, can be weighted, and can make use of a tiered-sum approach.

Dependent claims

A method comprising:

determining a set of affinity metrics for a set of listings, each listing of the set of listings comprising data to be shared through a data exchange, wherein the set of affinity metrics comprises at least one of:
collaborative filtering;
distinguishing operations specific to a listing;
listing metadata;
a number of views received by a listing;
a structured field category associated with a listing;
a number of time that native applications within a listing are executed;
static characteristics of a set of functions associated with a listing;
or
dynamic characteristics of a set of functions associated with a listing;
for each pair of listings of the set of listings:
calculating an affinity score indicating similar characteristics for the pair of listings of the set of listings, using the set of affinity metrics, for each pair of listings of the set of listings;
and
storing, for each pair of listings of the set of listings, a record in an affinity store, the record including:
a reference to each listing of the pair of listings of the set of listings;
and
the affinity score;
and
presenting one or more listings of the set of listings, each of the one or more listings occurring, in combination with a first listing of the set of listings, in the record in the affinity store, based at least in part on the affinity score between the first listing of the set of listings and the one or more listings of the set of listings, wherein presenting comprises at least one of:
a user interface;
or
a programmatic interface.

a memory;
and
a processing device, operatively coupled to the memory, the processing device to:
determine a set of affinity metrics for a set of listings, each listing of the set of listings comprising data to be shared through a data exchange, wherein the set of affinity metrics comprises at least one of:
collaborative filtering;
distinguishing operations specific to a listing;
listing metadata;
a number of views received by a listing;
a structured field category associated with a listing;
a number of time that native applications within a listing are executed;

for each pair of listings of the set of listings:

store, for each pair of listings of the set of listings, a record in an affinity store, the record including:
a reference to each listing of the pair of listings of the set of listings;
and
the affinity score;
and
present one or more listings of the set of listings, each of the one or more listings occurring, in combination with a first listing of the set of listings, in the record in the affinity store, based at least in part on the affinity score between the first listing of the set of listings and the one or more listings of the set of listings, wherein presenting comprises at least one of:
a user interface;
or
a programmatic interface.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon which, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to:

determine a set of affinity metrics for a set of listings, each listing of the set of listings comprising data to be shared through a data exchange, wherein the set of affinity metrics comprises at least one of:
