Abstract
The present disclosure is directed to opposables including a body having a plurality of cavities disposed therein. Each cavity can be designed to contain one or more reagents, liquids, or fluids which may be applied to a specimen-bearing surface. In some embodiments, the cavities include one or more reagent chambers, the reagent chambers can have one or more seals such that the reagents, liquids, or fluids contained therein may be stored and released to the specimen-bearing surface.
Claims19
A specimen-processing assembly, comprising
- an opposable comprising a body having a fluid-manipulating surface, wherein the opposable body comprises one or more cavities disposed therein, wherein each cavity of the one or more cavities includes at least one reagent chamber, and wherein the at least one reagent chamber of each cavity is in fluidic communication with an opening within the fluid-manipulating surface;
- and
- at least one spacer element coupled to the body of the opposable and configured to space the fluid-manipulating surface of the body from a slide to define a fluid-carrying gap between the fluid-manipulating surface of the body and the slide;
- an actuator configured to change a position of the opposable relative to the slide or to change the position of the slide relative to the opposable to move a volume of the reagent in a first and second direction along the surface of the slide while the spacer element coupled to the body of the opposable contacts the slide to vary a cross section of the fluid-carrying gap in a plane that is substantially perpendicular to the first and second directions;
- and
- means for dispensing a reagent from the at least one reagent chamber of the opposable to the fluid-carrying gap.

A specimen-processing assembly, comprising
- an opposable incorporating one or more onboard reagents, wherein the opposable comprises:
- a body having a fluid-manipulating surface, wherein the body includes at least one reagent chamber, and wherein the at least one reagent chamber is in fluidic communication with the fluid-manipulating surface;
- and
- at least one spacer element coupled to the body and configured to space the fluid-manipulating surface from a slide to define a fluid-carrying gap between the fluid-manipulating surface and the slide;
- an actuator configured to change a position of the opposable relative to the slide or to change the position of the slide relative to the opposable to move a volume of the reagent in a first and second direction along the slide while the spacer element contacts the slide to vary a cross section of the fluid-carrying gap in a plane that is substantially perpendicular to the first and second directions;
- and
- means for dispensing a reagent from the at least one reagent chamber of the opposable to the fluid-carrying gap.
