Abstract
A fluid routing plug for use with a fluid end section. The fluid end section being one of a plurality of fluid end sections making up a fluid end side of a high pressure pump. The fluid routing plug is installed within a horizontal bore formed in a fluid end section and is configured to route fluid throughout the fluid end section.
Claims23
A fluid routing plug, comprising:
- a body having a suction surface and an opposed discharge surface, in which the suction and discharge surfaces are joined by an outer intermediate surface;
- and in which the body has a central longitudinal axis that extends through the suction and discharge surfaces;
- a plurality of fluid passages formed in the body, in which the plurality of fluid passages do not intersect with each other;
- in which the intermediate surface of the body comprises:
- a first groove formed in the intermediate surface of the body adjacent the discharge surface and surrounding the longitudinal axis, the first groove configured to receive a seal;
- a second groove formed in the intermediate surface of the body adjacent the suction surface and surrounding the longitudinal axis, the second groove configured to receive a seal;
- in which a diameter of the first groove is greater than a diameter of the second groove;
- and
- an annular shoulder positioned adjacent the second groove and configured to engage an annular insert, the annular insert changed to bounded by opposing continuous first and second annular surfaces and inner and outer continuous intermediate radial surfaces and configured to be positioned intermediate the annular shoulder and the suction surface of the body, wherein the continuous first annular surface faces a same direction as the suction surface faces.

A fluid end section comprising:
- a housing having a longitudinal axis and opposed first and second surfaces joined by an outer intermediate surface, the housing comprising:
- a first section joined to a second and a third section by a plurality of fasteners;
- in which the first section of the housing is configured to receive a discharge valve, the third section of the housing is configured to receive a suction valve, and the second section of the housing is positioned intermediate the first and third sections;
- a horizontal bore formed within the housing and interconnecting the first and second surfaces, the horizontal bore extending along the longitudinal axis of the housing;
- an annular insert installed within a groove formed in the walls of the housing and surrounding the horizonal bore;
- and
- a fluid routing plug installed within the horizontal bore, the fluid routing plug comprising:
- a body having a suction surface and an opposed discharge surface, in which the suction and discharge surfaces are joined by an outer intermediate surface;
- and in which the body has a central longitudinal axis that extends through the suction and discharge surfaces;
- a plurality of fluid passages formed in the body, in which the plurality of fluid passages do not intersect with each other;
- in which the intermediate surface of the body comprises:
- a first groove formed in the intermediate surface of the body adjacent the discharge surface and surrounding the longitudinal axis, the first groove configured to receive a seal;
- a second groove formed in the intermediate surface of the body adjacent the suction surface and surrounding the longitudinal axis, the second groove configured to receive a seal;
- in which a diameter of the first groove is greater than a diameter of the second groove;
- and
- an annular shoulder positioned adjacent the second groove and engaging the annular insert;
- in which the annular shoulder is positioned within the second section of the housing;
- in which the second groove formed in the body of the fluid routing plug is positioned within the third section of the housing;
- and in which at least a portion of the fluid routing plug is positioned within the first, second, and third sections of the housing.

- a wear installed within a second groove formed in the walls of the housing and surrounding the horizontal bore;
- and
- a fluid routing plug, comprising:
- a body having a suction surface and an opposed discharge surface, in which the suction and discharge surfaces are joined by an outer intermediate surface;
- and in which the body has a central longitudinal axis that extends through the suction and discharge surfaces;
- a plurality of fluid passages formed in the body, in which the plurality of fluid passages do not intersect with each other;
- in which the intermediate surface of the body comprises:
- a first groove formed in the intermediate surface of the body adjacent the discharge surface and surrounding the longitudinal axis;
