Abstract
A method for filtering a gas includes delivering a gas into a compartment of a gas filter assembly; applying a partial vacuum to the gas filter assembly so that the partial vacuum assists in drawing the gas through a porous filter body of the gas filter assembly that is at least partially disposed within the compartment of the gas filter assembly; and regulating the application of the partial vacuum based on a pressure reading of the gas upstream or downstream of the gas filter assembly.
Claims20
A method for filtering a gas, the method comprising:
- delivering a gas into a compartment of a gas filter assembly;
- applying a partial vacuum to the gas filter assembly so that the partial vacuum assists in drawing the gas through a porous first filter body of the gas filter assembly that is at least partially disposed within the compartment of the gas filter assembly, the first filter body of the gas filter assembly having a pore size of 0.22 micrometers (μm) or smaller;
- and
- regulating the application of the partial vacuum based on a pressure reading of the gas upstream of the gas filter assembly or downstream of the gas filter assembly.
A system for filtering a gas comprising:
- a container having a compartment configured to hold a liquid and a gas;
- a first gas filter assembly comprising a casing bounding a compartment and a porous first filter body at least partially disposed within the compartment of the casing, the container being fluid coupled with the first gas filter assembly so that the gas can pass from the compartment of the container to the compartment of the casing, the first filter body of the first gas filter assembly having a pore size of 0.22 micrometers (μm) or smaller;
- at least one vacuum pump coupled with the first gas filter assembly so that when the at least one vacuum pump is activated, a partial vacuum is produced that assists in drawing the gas from the compartment of the casing through the first filter body;
- and
- a pressure sensor positioned so as to sense a pressure of the gas upstream or downstream of the first filter body.
A system for filtering a gas comprising:
- a container having a compartment;
- a liquid disposed within the compartment of the container, the liquid comprising a culture that includes media having cells or microorganisms suspended therein;
- means for delivering a gas into the compartment of the container so that the gas passes through a portion of the liquid;
- a first gas filter assembly comprising a casing bounding a compartment and a porous first filter body at least partially disposed within the compartment of the casing, the container being coupled with the first gas filter assembly so that the gas can pass from the compartment of the container to the compartment of the casing;
- at least one vacuum pump coupled with the first gas filter assembly so that when the at least one vacuum pump is activated, a partial vacuum is produced that assists in drawing the gas from the compartment of the casing through the first filter body.

- and
- a pressure sensor positioned so as to sense a pressure of the gas upstream or downstream of the first filter body;
- and
- a heating element secured to the first gas filter assembly, the heating element being configured to heat the gas passing through the first gas filter assembly.
