Abstract
Methods of protecting a surface include applying an inner polymer layer onto a surface. The inner polymer layer is impregnated with a biologically active chemical substance that protects the surface from biofouling-induced chemical, biological, and bio-proliferative damage. The inner polymer layer is an epoxy polymer. An outer polymer layer is applied onto the inner polymer layer. The outer polymer layer is impregnated with a biologically active chemical substance that protects the inner polymer layer from biofouling-induced chemical, biological, and bio-proliferative damage. The outer polymer layer is selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes and fluorourethanes.

A method of protecting a surface, comprising:
- applying an inner polymer layer onto a surface, the inner polymer layer being impregnated with a biologically active chemical substance that protects the surface from biofouling-induced chemical, biological, and bio-proliferative damage, the inner polymer layer being an epoxy polymer;
- and
- applying an outer polymer layer onto the inner polymer layer, the outer polymer layer being impregnated with a biologically active chemical substance that protects the inner polymer layer from biofouling-induced chemical, biological, and bio-proliferative damage and that repels biofouling animal organisms to prevent invasion of the inner polymer layer, wherein the outer polymer layer is selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes and fluorourethanes and wherein the biologically active chemical substance of the outer polymer layer includes a copper-zinc-tin alloy with zinc having a weight percentage between 8% and 12%, with tin having a weight percentage between 1% and 5%, and with copper having a weight percentage of at least 85% of the alloy.
A method of protecting a surface, comprising:
- applying a non-ablative inner polymer layer onto a surface, the inner polymer layer being impregnated with a biologically active chemical substance that protects the surface from biofouling-induced chemical, biological, and bio-proliferative damage, wherein the inner polymer layer is a flexible epoxy polymer;
- and
- applying a non-ablative outer polymer layer onto the inner polymer layer, the outer polymer layer being impregnated with a biologically active chemical substance combination that protects the inner polymer layer from biofouling-induced chemical, biological, and bio-proliferative damage by simultaneous repulsive effects on octopamine, GABA, and TRPV1 cell membrane receptors of biofouling animal organisms, wherein the outer polymer layer includes a material selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes and fluorourethanes and wherein the biologically active chemical substance combination of the outer polymer layer includes a copper-zinc-tin alloy with zinc having a weight percentage between 8% and 12%, with tin having a weight percentage between 1% and 5%, and with copper having a weight percentage of at least 85% of the alloy.
A method of protecting a surface, comprising:
- applying a non-ablative inner polymer layer onto a surface, the inner polymer layer being impregnated with a biologically active chemical substance that protects the surface from biofouling-induced chemical, biological, and bio-proliferative damage, wherein the inner polymer layer is a flexible epoxy polymer;
- and
- applying a non-ablative outer polymer layer onto the inner polymer layer, the outer polymer layer being impregnated with a powdered copper-zinc-tin alloy that remains chemically intact in contact with the surrounding water, wherein the outer polymer layer is selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes and fluorourethanes and wherein copper-zinc-tin alloy includes zinc having a weigh percentage between 8% and 12%, with tin having a weight percentage between 1% and 5%, and with copper having a weight percentage of at least 85% of the alloy.
