Abstract
A system for traversing an arterial occlusion in an artery includes a housing sized to fit in a palm of a user, an elongate drive tube configured to be rotated by the housing, the drive tube including an axially extending passage, a cylindrical member, configured to be rotationally coupled to the drive tube, such that a distal tip of the cylindrical member may be delivered to a location adjacent the arterial occlusion when the cylindrical member is coupled to the drive tube, and wherein grasping and activating the housing such that the drive tube is rotated, thereby causes the distal tip of the cylindrical member to be rotated, the rotation of the distal tip including at least a component of linear oscillation.
Claims20
An apparatus for manipulating a guidewire for use in an endovascular procedure comprising:
- a housing sized to fit in a palm of a user and configured to allow an elongate member to be placed therethrough;
- a chuck rotatably carried by the housing and selectively lockable to the elongate member to apply motive force to the elongate member;
- a motor carried by the housing and configured to rotate the chuck;
- and
- a mechanical switch carried by the housing and having a first position and a second position, wherein when the mechanical switch is in the first position substantially only rotational motive force is applied to the chuck and wherein when the mechanical switch is in the second position combined rotational motive force and cyclic axial motive force are applied to the chuck.
