Abstract
A coil slitting tool in the form of a rotary serrator knife for use on coil slitting machines includes a plurality of serration undulations disposed on one or more faces about the outer periphery. The rotary serrator knife tool may incorporate a concentrically located bore about an inner diameter for mounting on an arbor and may further incorporate a keyway. The rotary serrator knife may be formed from an assembly having, a central rotary disk about which mount one or more removable inserts including the serration undulation portion. The one or more removable inserts may include serration undulations on one side or two sides and mount substantially to the perimeter of a mounting disk by use of fasteners.
Claims18
A rotary slitting system comprising:
- two or more correspondingly opposed rotary serrator knives, each forming a disk, each disk comprising a first side and an opposing second side joined by an outer perimeter surface defined by a constant outer diameter;
- said first side comprising circumferentially spaced serration undulations defined by radially arranged valleys, peaks, and transition elements defining radial lines where elements intersect, said radial lines having a pitch relative to their radius,
- said circumferentially spaced serration undulations forming, in conjunction with said outer perimeter surface, a shearing edge of serration profile,
- wherein the serration undulations of each correspondingly opposed rotary serrator knife are synchronized and opposingly meshed thereto to impart a serrated edge upon material drawn between the two or more correspondingly opposed rotary serrator knives.
