Abstract
A method of securing a first component part and a second component part together, the method comprising providing an electrically conductive member between a first surface of the first component part and a facing first surface of the second component part and securing the first and second components together by passing a current through the electrically conductive member. The electrically conductive member is distributed across at least 50% of the surface area of the first surface of the first component part.
Claims7
A manufactured part comprising first and second component parts that are secured together, the parts are resistively welded together along an interface of the first and second component parts, wherein the parts are resistively welded together across a substantial portion of the interface and wherein the parts are resistively welded together along a continuous line, the line has a longitudinal length and a width in a direction transverse to the length, and the width of the line decreases from a first end of the line to a second end of the line, whereby, during a welding operation, generally uniform heating is generated along the length of the line and the manufactured part has a generally uniform bond along the length of the line.
