Abstract
A system described herein may provide a technique for maintaining and transferring context information for a Dual Connectivity (“DC”)-capable User Equipment (“UE”) and a secondary Next Generation Node B (“gNB”) in situations where the UE is connected to a primary gNB and the secondary gNB and is handed over to an evolved Node B (“eNB”). The context information may be provided to the eNB without releasing resources or tearing down bearers at the secondary gNB, such that the UE may seamlessly continue communicating with the secondary gNB while a primary connection associated with the UE is handed over from the primary gNB to the eNB.
Claims20
A device, comprising:
- one or more processors configured to:
- determine that a handover should be performed with respect to a User Equipment (“UE”) that is simultaneously connected to a first base station and a second base station;
- provide, based on determining that the handover should be performed, an identifier of the first base station to a third base station;
- receive an acknowledgment from the third base station based on providing the identifier of the first base station to the third base station;
- and
- output, based on receiving the acknowledgement from the third base station, a handover command to the UE, wherein the handover command includes an identifier of the first base station and the third base station, wherein the UE connects to the third base station and remains connected to the first base station based on receiving the handover command.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium, storing a plurality of processor-executable instructions to:
- determine that a handover should be performed with respect to a User Equipment (“UE”) that is simultaneously connected to a first base station and a second base station;
- provide, based on determining that the handover should be performed, an identifier of the first base station to a third base station;
- receive an acknowledgment from the third base station based on providing the identifier of the first base station to the third base station;
- and
- output, based on receiving the acknowledgement from the third base station, a handover command to the UE, wherein the handover command includes an identifier of the first base station and the third base station, wherein the UE connects to the third base station and remains connected to the first base station based on receiving the handover command.
A method, comprising:
- determining that a handover should be performed with respect to a User Equipment (“UE”) that is simultaneously connected to a first base station and a second base station;
- providing, based on determining that the handover should be performed, an identifier of the first base station to a third base station;
- receiving an acknowledgment from the third base station based on providing the identifier of the first base station to the third base station;
- and
- outputting, based on receiving the acknowledgement from the third base station, a handover command to the UE, wherein the handover command includes an identifier of the first base station and the third base station, wherein the UE connects to the third base station and remains connected to the first base station based on receiving the handover command.
