Flexible zone-based registration area tracking in a wireless network

A wireless device, comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:
• send, to an access and mobility management function (AMF) via an access network, a first registration request message comprising a first geographical coordinate of a first geographical location;
• receive, from the AMF, a registration access message comprising a radius value;
• move to a second geographical location;
• determine, a distance between the first geographical coordinate and a second geographical coordinate of the second geographical location is larger than the radius value;
• and
• send, in response to the determination, a second registration request message comprising the second geographical coordinate.

A system comprising:

• a wireless device comprising:
• one or more first processors;
• and
• first memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more first processors, cause the wireless device to:
• send a first registration request message comprising a first geographical coordinate of a first geographical location;
• receive a registration accept message comprising a radius value;
• move to a second geographical location;
• determine a distance between the first geographical coordinate and a second geographical coordinate of the second geographical location is larger than the radius value;
• and
• send in response to the determination, a second registration request message comprising the second geographical coordinate;
• and
• an access and mobility management function (AMF) comprising:
• one or more second processors;
• and
• second memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more second processors, cause the AMF to:
• receive the first registration request message;
• determine the radius value;
• send the registration accept message comprising the radius value;
• and
• receive the second registration request message.
