Abstract
Systems and methods to support coexistence of multi-connectivity functions in 3GPP network and non-3GPP networks for UEs and to provide traffic routing policies and coordinate with ATSSS operation in 5GS are described. The AF subscribes to a registration-state notification event. A report is sent to the AF from the PCF or NEF. The report indicates a current registration state of a UE and is triggered when the registration state of the UE changes. The report may be sent with or without PDU session information, the former of which may be based on a determination by the AMF or the SMF. Traffic steering is enforced by the MAMS among multiple IP sessions coordinated via a single or a multiple PDU sessions in the 3GPP network.
Claims17
An apparatus for an application function (AF) configured for operation in a fifth-generation system (5GS), the apparatus comprising:
- processing circuitry to configure the AF to, for multiple access management service (MAMS):
- transmit, to one of a network exposure function (NEF) in response to the AF being in an external data network or policy control function (PCF) in response to the AF being in a trusted domain, an event report request for service subscription to an event report of a user equipment (UE), the event report indicating a current status or a change in an event status for the UE from a network function, the event report request including being for a current registration state or a change in registration state for the UE from an access and mobility function (AMF);
- receive, from the one of the NEF or PCF, a particular event report indicating a status of a requested event for the UE;
- and
- in response to notification of the particular event report indicating the current registration state or change in registration state for the UE, transmit to the one of the NEF or PCF for subsequent transmission to a Session Management Function (SMF), a request with a UE identifier and an indication not to employ Access Traffic Steering, Switching and Splitting (ATSSS) functionality for provisioning the MAMS service for the UE;
- and memory configured to store the event report.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium that stores instructions for execution by one or more processors of an access function (AF), the instructions when executed configure the one or more processors to configure the AF to:
- transmit, to one of a network exposure function (NEF) or policy control function (PCF), a request for service subscription to a registration-state report of a user equipment (UE), the registration-state report indicating a change in registration state for the UE when an access and mobility function (AMF) becomes aware of a registration state change of the UE;
- receive, from the one of the NEF or PCF, a registration-state report indicating that the UE is registered;
- and
- in response to reception of the registration-state report, transmit to the one of the NEF or PCF for subsequent transmission to a Session Management Function (SMF), a request with a UE identifier and an indication not to employ Access Traffic Steering, Switching and Splitting (ATSSS) functionality for provisioning Multi Access Management Services (MAMS) service for the UE.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium that stores instructions for execution by one or more processors of a policy and control function (PCF), the instructions when executed configure the one or more processors to configure the PCF to:
- receive, from an application function (AF), a request for service subscription to a registration-state report of a user equipment (UE);
- in response to reception of the request from the AF, subscribe to a registration-state report event to receive a current registration state of the UE;
- receive, from an access and mobility function (AMF), a registration-state report event indicating a registration state change of the UE;
- transmit, for transmission to the AF, a registration-state report indicating if the UE is registered;
- and
- receive, from the AF or a network exposure function (NEF), a service request for Multi Access Management Services (MAMS) activation, the service request forwarded by the NEF from the AF to the PCF after determination by the NEF that a service authorization for the service request from the AF and a service subscription of the UE for the MAMS are successful.
