Abstract
A cable termination that provides low signal distortion even at high frequencies. Conductive elements of the cable are fused to edges of signal conductors in a cable connector or other component terminating the cable. For terminating a differential pair, the conductive elements of the cable may be terminated to opposing edges of a pair of signal conductors in the cable termination. The conductive elements may be shaped such that the spacing between signal paths passing through the conductive elements of the cable and into the signal conductors of the cable termination is uniform.
Claims19
A cable assembly, comprising:
- a cable comprising a conductive element;
- and
- a signal conductor comprising a contact tail, a mating contact portion opposite the contact tail in a first direction, and an intermediate portion extending between the contact tail and the mating contact portion, the contact tail and the intermediate portion each comprising first and second broadsides and first and second edges joining the broadsides, the first edge of the contact tail extending from the first edge of the intermediate portion and the second edge of the contact tail extending from the second edge of the intermediate portion, wherein
- the first edge of the contact tail is a planar portion of the contact tail between the broadsides,
- the conductive element of the cable is attached to the first edge of the contact tail of the signal conductor at an attachment location on the planar portion, and
- the first edge of the contact tail of the signal conductor is offset in a second direction, perpendicular to the first direction, relative to the first edge of the intermediate portion such that the attachment location is offset with respect to the first edge of the intermediate portion.
A cable assembly, comprising:
- a cable comprising a conductive element;
- and
- a signal conductor comprising a contact tail, a mating contact portion opposite the contact tail in a first direction, and an intermediate portion extending between the contact tail and the mating contact portion, the contact tail and the intermediate portion each comprising first and second broadsides and first and second edges joining the broadsides, the first edge of the contact tail extending from the first edge of the intermediate portion and the second edge of the contact tail extending from the second edge of the intermediate portion, wherein:
- the conductive element of the cable is attached to the first edge of the contact tail of the signal conductor at an attachment location;
- the first edge of the contact tail of the signal conductor is offset in a second direction, perpendicular to the first direction, relative to the first edge of the intermediate portion such that the attachment location is offset with respect to the first edge of the intermediate portion;
- the conductive element of the cable is a first conductive element of the cable, and the cable comprises a second conductive element;
- the signal conductor is a first signal conductor and the cable assembly comprises a second signal conductor adjacent the first signal conductor, wherein the second signal conductor comprises a contact tail, a mating contact portion opposite the contact tail in a first direction, and an intermediate portion extending between the contact tail and the mating contact portion, the contact tail and the intermediate portion each comprising first and second broadsides and first and second edges joining the broadsides, the first edge of the contact tail extending from the first edge of the intermediate portion and the second edge of the contact tail extending from the second edge of the intermediate portion;
