Dynamic index management for computing storage resources

A method, comprising:

• collecting, by a processor, a set of current performance data for a set of storage resources storing data;
• and
• dynamically implementing a set of indexes for the data stored on the set of storage resources based on an optimized performance predicted for the set of storage resources based on the collected set of current performance data and a set of predicted performance data that identifies the set of indexes,
• wherein:
• dynamically implementing the set of indexes comprises replacing a current primary index for the set of storage devices with a new primary index for the set of storage devices in response to determining that a first index type of the new primary index optimizes performance of the set of storage devices compared to a second index type of the current primary index;
• and
• dynamically implementing the set of indexes further comprises one of:
• maintaining at least one current secondary index as at least one current secondary index in response to determining that a third index type of the current secondary index optimizes performance of the set of storage devices compared to other index types, and
• replacing at least one current secondary index with the at least one new secondary index in response to determining that a fourth index type of the new secondary index optimizes performance of the set of storage devices compared to the third index type of the current secondary index.

A computer program product for managing a set of indexes for a set of storage resources, the computer program product comprising a computer-readable storage medium including program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a processor to cause the processor to:

• collect, by the processor, a set of current performance data for a set of storage resources storing data;
• and
• dynamically implement, by the processor, a set of indexes for the data stored on the set of storage resources based on an optimized performance predicted for the set of storage resources based on the collected set of current performance data and a set of predicted performance data that identifies the set of indexes,
• wherein:
• dynamically implementing the set of indexes comprises replacing a current primary index for the set of storage devices with a new primary index for the set of storage devices in response to determining that a first index type of the new primary index optimizes performance of the set of storage devices compared to a second index type of the current primary index;
• and
• dynamically implementing the set of indexes further comprises one of:
• maintaining at least one current secondary index as at least one current secondary index in response to determining that a third index type of the current secondary index optimizes performance of the set of storage devices compared to other index types, and
• replacing at least one current secondary index with the at least one new secondary index in response to determining that a fourth index type of the new secondary index optimizes performance of the set of storage devices compared to the third index type of the current secondary index.
