Abstract
A controller controls an operation of a semiconductor memory device including a plurality of memory blocks. The controller includes a command generator, a sudden power off (SPO) sensor, an SPO information storage, and a block scan controller. The command generator generates a command for controlling the semiconductor memory device. The SPO sensor generates an SPO sensing signal by sensing occurrence of SPO. The SPO information storage stores SPO block information indicating a memory block that is a target of a current operation (target memory block) in response to the SPO sensing signal. The block scan controller controls the command generator to perform a scan operation on the plurality of memory blocks, except for the target memory block, in response to the SPO block information.
Claims20
A controller that controls an operation of a semiconductor memory device including a plurality of memory blocks, the controller comprising:
- a command generator configured to generate a command for controlling the semiconductor memory device;
- a sudden power off information storage configured to store sudden power off block information indicating a target memory block which is a memory block that was performing an operation when sudden power off occurred at the controller;
- and
- a block scan controller configured to control the command generator to perform a scan operation on the plurality of memory blocks, except the target memory block, in response to the sudden power off block information,
- wherein the sudden power off occurring at the controller includes a decrease of a voltage supplied to the controller.
A method of operating a controller that controls a semiconductor memory device including a plurality of memory blocks, the method comprising:
- determining that sudden power off has occurred at the controller;
- registering a target memory block, which is a memory block that was performing an operation when sudden power off occurred at the controller, in a sudden power off block table;
- determining whether to perform a scan operation of the semiconductor memory device;
- identifying at least one memory block including the target memory block registered in the sudden power off block table;
- and
- performing a scan operation on the plurality of memory blocks, except for the identified at least one memory block,
- wherein the sudden power off occurring at the controller includes a decrease of a voltage supplied to the controller.
A method of operating a controller that controls a semiconductor memory device including a plurality of memory blocks, the method comprising:
- determining whether to perform a scan operation on the semiconductor memory device;
- referring to sudden power off block information on a target memory block that was performing an operation when sudden power off occurred at the controller;
- and
- selectively performing the scan operation on the plurality of memory blocks based on the sudden power off block information,
- wherein the sudden power off occurring at the controller includes a decrease of a voltage supplied to the controller.
