Planetary gearbox for gas turbine engine

A planetary gearbox, comprising:

• a sun gear in communication with an input to the gearbox;
• a plurality of planet gear assemblies, each planet gear assembly having a main gear meshed with the sun gear, a fore lateral gear and an aft lateral gear disposed on opposite sides of the main gear and rotating therewith, a diameter of the main gear being different than a diameter of the fore and aft lateral gears, wherein each fore lateral gear is a helical gear with teeth disposed at a first angular orientation, and each aft lateral gear is a helical gear with teeth disposed at a second angular orientation, and the first angular orientation is opposite the second angular orientation;
• a planet carrier in communication with each planet gear assembly of the plurality of planet gear assemblies;
• a fore ring gear meshed with the fore lateral gears;
• and
• an aft ring gear meshed with the aft lateral gears;
• wherein the fore ring gear and the aft ring gear are in communication with an output.

A gas turbine engine, comprising:

• a compressor;
• a combustor;
• a turbine in communication with the compressor and a planetary gearbox, the planetary gearbox comprising:
• a sun gear in communication with the turbine;
• a plurality of planet gear assemblies, each planet gear assembly having a main gear meshed with the sun gear, a fore lateral gear and an aft lateral gear disposed on opposite sides of the main gear and rotating therewith, a diameter of the main gear being different than a diameter of the fore and aft lateral gears, wherein each fore lateral gear is a helical gear with teeth disposed at a first angular orientation, and each aft lateral gear is a helical gear with teeth disposed at a second angular orientation, and the first angular orientation is opposite the second angular orientation;
• a planet carrier in communication with each planet gear assembly of the plurality of planet gear assemblies, the planet carrier in communication with a load;
• a fore ring gear meshed with the fore lateral gears;
• and
• an aft ring gear meshed with the aft lateral gears.
