Abstract
A system and method for treating pain without paresthesia by spinal cord stimulation.
Claims16
A method of treating pain without paresthesia comprising the steps of:
- implanting at least an electrical lead within a patient such that at least one electrode of the electrical lead is disposed within an epidural space of a vertebral segment, wherein the vertebral segment corresponds to a thoracic vertebral segment or a lumbar vertebral segment;
- selecting one or more operating parameters for an electrical spinal cord stimulation system that define burst stimulation that is effective for treating pain of the patient, wherein, when generated by the electrical spinal cord stimulation system, the burst stimulation comprises a plurality of electrical pulses that exhibit a pulse rate between 500 Hz and 10,000 Hz;
- programming the electrical spinal cord stimulation system to generate the plurality of electrical pulses according to the one or more operating parameters;
- and
- activating the electrical spinal cord stimulation system to deliver the plurality of electrical pulses to the at least one electrode disposed within the epidural space of the vertebral segment in accordance with the one or more operating parameters to stimulate nerve tissue of the patient to treat the patient's pain without paresthesia, wherein the nerve tissue comprises dorsal fibers of the spinal cord associated with the thoracic vertebral segment or the lumbar vertebral segment.
