Abstract
The invention provides a variety of novel devices, systems, and methods of utilizing mixed-ionic-electronic conductor (MIEC) materials adapted to function with an applied current or potential. The materials, as part of a circuit, are placed in contact with a part of a human or nonhuman animal body. A sodium selective membrane system utilizing the MIEC is also described.
Claims18
A method of treating a human or nonhuman animal, comprising:
- providing an apparatus comprising a MIEC disposed between an anode and cathode;
- wherein the MIEC comprises an electrical conductor, ionic conductor, and elastomeric particles;
- applying the MIEC directly in contact with skin of the human or nonhuman animal;
- and
- passing an electrical current through the MIEC wherein at least 90 mass % of the elastomeric particles have diameters in a range of 50 nm to 10 μm.
