Abstract
Methods and compounds for use in promoting survival of at least one eukaryotic cell, wherein the compounds are effective as gamma-ketoaldehyde scavengers.
Claims4
A method for slowing the progression of cell death in a subject diagnosed with age-related oxidant injury, comprising:
- measuring an isoprostane level in said subject to determine the need for sirtuin modulation;
- and
- administering to said subject an effective sirtuin potentiating amount of a compound selected from the formula:
- wherein:
- R is CH, C—CH3, or C—CH2—CH3;
- R2 is independently H, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl;
- R3 is H, halogen, alkoxy, hydroxyl, nitro;
- R4 is H, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, carboxyl;
- and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
