Abstract
A method of fixating a prosthesis to a glenoid is disclosed. The method includes forming a bore in the glenoid; positioning the prosthesis adjacent the glenoid, where the prosthesis includes a head portion and an anchor extending from a rear surface of the head portion; wherein the anchor includes a first fin and a second fin proximal of the first fin; advancing the anchor into the bore until the first fin is implanted within cancellous bone; and further advancing the anchor in the bore until a proximal-facing surface of the second fin is implanted within cancellous bone and abuts cortical bone.

A method of fixating a glenoid prosthesis to a glenoid comprising:
- forming a bore in the glenoid;
- positioning the glenoid prosthesis adjacent the glenoid, the glenoid prosthesis comprising:
- a head portion having a convex rear surface configured to engage with a glenoid and an articular surface configured to engage with a humeral component;
- an anchor extending from a rear surface of the head portion and terminating at a distal end;
- a first deformable fin disposed between the head portion and the distal end of the anchor, the first deformable fin encircling the anchor;
- and
- a second deformable fin proximal of the first deformable fin disposed between the head portion and the distal end of the anchor, the second deformable fin encircling the anchor;
- advancing the anchor into the bore until the first deformable fin is implanted within cancellous bone;
- and
- further advancing the anchor in the bore until a proximal-facing surface of the second deformable fin is implanted within cancellous bone and directly abuts cortical bone,
- wherein when the proximal-facing surface of the second deformable fin abuts cortical bone, a third deformable fin that encircles the anchor is implanted within cortical bone.
A method, comprising:
- forming a bore in a glenoid;
- positioning a glenoid prosthesis adjacent to the glenoid, the glenoid prosthesis comprising:
- a head portion including a convex rear surface for engaging the glenoid and an opposed articular surface for engaging a humeral component,
- an anchor integrally formed with the head portion and extending from a center of the convex rear surface of the head portion and terminating at a distal end, the anchor sized to be received in the bore formed in the glenoid,
- a plurality of first circular deformable members disposed between the head portion and the distal end of the anchor, the plurality of circular deformable members encircling the anchor, and
- a plurality of second circular deformable members disposed between the head portion and the distal end of the anchor, the plurality of second circular deformable members encircling the anchor,
- wherein at least one of the plurality of first circular deformable members has a first diameter, at least one of the plurality of second circular deformable members has a second diameter, and the first diameter is different from the second diameter;
- advancing the anchor into the bore until at least one of the plurality of first deformable circular members is implanted within cancellous bone and at least one of the plurality of second deformable circular members is implanted within cortical bone.
A method of fixating a glenoid prosthesis to a glenoid, the method comprising:
- forming a bore in the glenoid;
- positioning the glenoid prosthesis adjacent to the glenoid, the glenoid prosthesis comprising:
- a first portion including a first surface and a second surface, the first surface configured to engage the glenoid, and the second surface being an at least partially concave articulation surface configured to engage a humeral implant;
- a second portion extending from the first surface of the first portion, the second portion having a cylindrical shape defining a longitudinal axis;
- a first deformable fin circumferentially arranged about the longitudinal axis defined by the second portion;
- a second deformable fin circumferentially arranged about the longitudinal axis defined by the second portion;
- and
- a third deformable fin circumferentially arranged about the longitudinal axis defined by the second portion;
- advancing the second portion into the bore until the first deformable fin is implanted within cancellous bone;
- and
- further advancing the second portion into the bore until a proximal-facing surface of the second deformable fin is implanted within cancellous bone and directly abuts cortical bone and the third deformable fin is implanted within cortical bone.
