Abstract
A voltage controlled oscillator includes a resonator and an amplifier. The resonator includes a capacitive element and an inductive element. The inductive element has a plurality of conductive segments forming a physical loop. The inductive element has electrical connections on the physical loop to the plurality of conductive segments forming at least one electrical loop disposed within an interior space formed by the physical loop. The amplifier has an input and an output, the input coupled to a first conductive segment forming a first impedance and the output coupled to a second conductive segment forming a second impedance.

An oscillator circuit comprising:
- an amplifier having a differential input and a differential output;
- a resonator having a capacitive element and a tapped inductor having a plurality of conductive segments forming a single physical loop having a first terminal and a fourth terminal, and the tapped inductor having a plurality of tap segments disposed within an interior space formed by the single physical loop, the plurality of tap segments having a second terminal and a third terminal;
- and
- wherein the first terminal and the fourth terminal are coupled to the differential inputs of the amplifier, and the second terminal and the third terminal are coupled to the differential outputs of the amplifier.
An oscillator circuit comprising:
- an amplifier having differential inputs and differential outputs;
- and
- a tapped LC tank comprising a single physical loop having first and second input terminals and first and second output terminals and forming a resonator having a capacitive element coupled across the first and second input terminals and a tapped inductor having a plurality of conductive segments, and the tapped inductor having a plurality of tap segments disposed within an interior space formed by the single physical loop terminating in the first and second output terminals;
- and
- wherein the first and the second input terminals are coupled to the differential inputs of the amplifier, and the first and second output terminals are coupled to the differential outputs of the amplifier.
