Method to design for thickening time using cementitious blend composition

A method comprising:

• preparing a slurry comprising a cement, water, and a supplementary cementitious material;
• measuring a thickening time of the slurry;
• providing a thickening time model, wherein the thickening time model includes a model element of sensitivity to change in water amount in the cement slurry, wherein the model element of sensitivity to change in water amount in the cement slurry comprises an exponential term, a power law term, and/or a polynomial term relating the effect of water content of the cement slurry to thickening time;
• and
• calculating a reactivity (βi) for the supplementary cementitious material using a thickening time model.

A method comprising:

• providing a thickening time model, wherein the thickening time model includes a model element of sensitivity to change in water amount in the cement slurry, wherein the model element of sensitivity to change in water amount in the cement slurry comprises an exponential term, a power law term, and/or a polynomial term relating the effect of water content of the cement slurry to thickening time;
• selecting, based at least in part on the thickening time model, a thickening time requirement and a density requirement, at least a cement and concentration thereof, a water and concentration thereof, and optionally, at least one supplementary cementitious material and concentration thereof, such that a slurry comprising the cement and concentration thereof, the water and concentration thereof, and, if present, the at least one supplementary cementitious material and concentration thereof, meets or exceeds the thickening time requirement;
• and
• preparing the cement slurry.
