Abstract
Disclosed are methods of forming an epimer or a dehydrated isomer of a pyranose monosaccharide or a pyranose saccharide residue in an oligosaccharide or a glycoside.
Claims20
A method of deoxygenating a pyranose monosaccharide or a pyranose saccharide residue in an oligosaccharide or a glycoside, represented by the following scheme:
- wherein,
- A is a pyranose monosaccharide or a pyranose saccharide residue in an oligosaccharide or a glycoside;
- A′ is a dehydrated isomer of A;
- wherein A′ comprises a —C(O)—CH2— moiety at a location that is —CH(OH)—CH(OH)— in A;
- X1 is a photocatalyst;
- X2 is a base or absent;
- X3 is an alkyl thiol;
- X5 is a Lewis acid;
- and
- hv is light.

A method of forming an epimer of a pyranose monosaccharide or a pyranose saccharide residue in an oligosaccharide or a glycoside, represented by the following scheme:
- wherein,
- A is a pyranose monosaccharide or a pyranose saccharide residue in an oligosaccharide or a glycoside;
- A′ is an epimer of A, wherein the stereochemical configuration of a chiral center bearing a hydroxyl moiety in A′ is inverted relative to the stereochemical configuration of the chiral center in A;
- X1 is a photocatalyst;
- X2 is an amine;
- X3 is an alkyl thiol;
- and
- hv is light.
