Abstract
Apparatuses, systems, and methods of the present disclosure may provide access security in a process control system. For example, current biometric data representative of a user may be acquired and compared to stored biometric data representative of previously identified users. Access to the process control system may be authorized when the current biometric data matches stored biometric data.
Claims36
A method for operating a process control system for an industrial process plant, the method comprising:
- providing a user access to the process control system to interact with the process control system via a first level of access, via a user-interface, when the identity of the user is determined, wherein the user-interface includes at least one element selected from:
- an input parameter to an adaptive Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control block, a start function of an adaptive control loop, a stop function of the adaptive control loop, a control function of the adaptive control loop, a start function of at least one block of the adaptive control loop, a stop function of at least one block of the adaptive control loop, a control function of at least one block of the adaptive control loop, a set point to a control block, or at least one adjustment to the control block;
- capturing, via a sensor at the user-interface, current biometric data of a changed user that is authorized to interact with the process control system via a second level of access;
- comparing the current biometric data to stored data of users that are authorized to interact with the process control system;
- determining a change in user based on a difference between the current biometric data and the stored data of users that are authorized to interact with the process control system;
- and preventing the changed user from performing a secured operation within the process control system, wherein the user-interface includes at least one less element associated with the second level of access when compared to the first level of access.
A system for operating a process control system for an industrial process plant, the system comprising:
- a communication network;
- one or more processors communicatively coupled to the communication network;
- and
- a non-transitory computer-readable memory coupled to the one or more processors and storing thereon instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to:
- provide a user access to the process control system to interact with the process control system via a first level of access, via a user-interface, when an identity of the user is determined, wherein the user-interface includes at least one element selected from:
- an input parameter to an adaptive Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control block, a start function of an adaptive control loop, a stop function of the adaptive control loop, a control function of the adaptive control loop, a start function of at least one block of the adaptive control loop, a stop function of at least one block of the adaptive control loop, a control function of at least one block of the adaptive control loop, a set point to a control block, or at least one adjustment to the control block;
- capture, via a sensor at the user-interface, current biometric data of a changed user that is authorized to interact with the process control system via a second level of access;
- compare the current biometric data to stored data of users that are authorized to interact with the process control system via the first level of access;
- determine a change in user based on a difference between the current biometric data
- and the stored data of users that are authorized to interact with the process control system;
- and prevent the changed user from performing a secured operation within the process control system, wherein the user-interface includes at least one less element associated with the second level of access when compared to the first level of access.
A tangible, computer-readable medium storing instructions that when executed by one or more processors of a process control system, cause the process control system to:
- provide a user access to the process control system to interact with the process control system via a first level of access, via a user-interface, when an identity of the user is determined, wherein the user-interface includes at least one element selected from:
- an input parameter to an adaptive Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control block, a start function of an adaptive control loop, a stop function of the adaptive control loop, a control function of the adaptive control loop, a start function of at least one block of the adaptive control loop, a stop function of at least one block of the adaptive control loop, a control function of at least one block of the adaptive control loop, a set point to a control block, or at least one adjustment to the control block;
- capture, via a sensor at the user-interface, current biometric data of a changed user that is authorized to interact with the process control system via a second level of access;
- compare the current biometric data to stored data of users that are authorized to interact with the process control system;
- and
- determine a change in user based on a difference between the current biometric data and the stored data of users that are authorized to interact with the process control system;
- and prevent the changed user from performing a secured operation within the process control system, wherein the user-interface includes at least one less element associated with the second level of access when compared to the first level of access.
