Abstract
Some embodiments provide a method of emulating a presentation of at least one system object of a first database, based on multiple system objects of a second database. From a client, the method receives a first query for the first database requesting a presentation of the system object. From a metadata storage, the method identifies a second query for the second database that references the system objects of the second database, and generates the requested presentation of the system object. The method replies to the client with the generated presentation.

For a database system that processes queries written to a first database with queries to a second database after data is migrated from the first database to the second database, a method of emulating a presentation of at least one particular system object of the first database based on a plurality of system objects of the second database, the method comprising:
- from a client, receiving a first query written to the first database and requesting a presentation of the particular system object;
- using a set of data in a metadata storage to generate a second query for the second database that references the plurality of system objects of the second database;
- sending the second query to the second database;
- and
- after receiving, from the second database, a response to the sent query, formulating a reply to the client that includes a generated presentation of the particular system object of the first database,
- wherein the first and second databases are developed by different database vendors.
A non-transitory machine readable medium storing a program which when executed by at least one processing unit emulates a presentation of at least one particular system object of a first database based on a plurality of system objects of a second database, the program for a database system that processes queries written to the first database with queries to the second database after data is migrated from the first database to the second database the method comprising:
- from a client, receiving a first query written to the first database and requesting a presentation of the particular system object;
- using a set of data in a metadata storage to generate a second query for the second database that references the plurality of system objects of the second database;
- sending the second query to the second database;
- and
- after receiving, from the second database, a response to the sent query, formulating a reply to the client that includes a generated presentation of the particular system object of the first database,
- wherein the first and second databases are developed by different database vendors.
