Abstract
Systems and methods are described, and one method includes providing an optical fiber extending into a chamber with a volume of the gas; passing an optical beam, from an optical source, through the optical fiber; applying a spectral analysis to the optical beam as received after passing through the optical fiber, and outputting a corresponding spectral analysis signal; and determining, based on the output spectral analysis signal, whether a liquid is carried by the volume of the gas.
Claims20
A method for determining whether a liquid is carried by a gas, the method comprising:
- providing an optical fiber extending into a chamber with a volume of the gas;
- passing an optical beam, from an optical source, through the optical fiber;
- applying a spectral analysis to the optical beam as received after passing through the optical fiber, and outputting a corresponding spectral analysis signal;
- and
- determining, based on the output spectral analysis signal, whether a liquid is carried by the volume of the gas.
An apparatus for determining whether a liquid is carried by a gas, the apparatus comprising:
- a measurement housing configured to enclose a chamber and to include a gas inlet port into the chamber and a gas outlet port from the chamber;
- an optical fiber extending into the chamber;
- an optical source configured to pass an optical beam into the optical fiber;
- a spectral analysis unit configured to receive the optical beam subsequent to passing through the optical fiber in the chamber, and output a corresponding spectral analysis signal;
- and
- a processing unit configured to receive the output spectral analysis signal and based thereon to determine whether a liquid is carried by a volume of the gas received into the chamber through the gas inlet port.
An apparatus for determining whether a liquid is carried by a volume of gas, the apparatus comprising:
- a measurement housing configured to enclose a chamber and to include a gas inlet port into the chamber and a gas outlet port from the chamber;
- an optical fiber extending into the chamber and terminates in the chamber with the volume of gas with a cap having a mirror surface;
- an optical source configured to pass an optical beam into the optical fiber;
- a spectral analysis unit configured to receive the optical beam subsequent to passing through the optical fiber in the chamber, and output a corresponding spectral analysis signal;
- and
- a processing unit configured to receive the output spectral analysis signal and based thereon to determine whether a liquid is carried by a volume of the gas received into the chamber through the gas inlet port;
- wherein the optical beam propagates through the optical fiber to the cap with the mirror surface and back from the mirror surface in a multi-refection path to a spectral analysis unit that applies the spectral analysis to the optical beam.
