Abstract
An explosive sheet simulant that uses an ethylene vinyl acetate polymer combined with boron carbide or iron oxide for X-ray attenuating properties, and components of the mixture selected for predetermined flexural modulus combined with particle density, effective atomic number, X-ray transmission properties, or millimeter wave properties.
Claims10
An explosive simulant, consisting of a mixture of:
- ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) polymer comprising a naphthenic plasticizer wherein a composition of the EVA polymer with the naphthenic plasticizer is cross linked;
- and
- at least one compound selected from the group consisting of boron carbide and iron oxide;
- wherein the explosive simulant has a density (g/cc) of 1.50, an effective atomic number (Z effective) of 7.76, a high reveal computed tomography number (High Reveal-CT #) of 13403 Modified Hounsfield Units, and a low reveal computed tomography number (Low Reveal-CT #) of 13390 Modified Hounsfield Units;
- wherein the explosive simulant is in a form of a sheet having a flexural modulus property of an explosive and millimeter wave properties of the explosive;
- and
- wherein the explosive simulant consists of 25.0-58.0% EVA polymer, 49.0-71.0% boron carbide and 0.7-2.5% iron oxide.
