Abstract
Providing electric power distribution for fracturing operations comprising receiving, at a transport, electric power from a mobile source of electricity at a first voltage level and supplying, from the transport, the electric power to a fracturing pump transport at the first voltage level using only a first, single cable connection. The first voltage level falls within a range of 1,000 V to 35 kilovolts. The transport also supplies electric power to a second transport at the first voltage level using only a second, single cable connection.
Claims18
An electric fracturing system for use with at least one power generation source providing source electric power, the system comprising:
- a switch gear transport electrically connected to the at least one power generation source-and configured to receive the source electric power at a first voltage level;
- a first electrical cable connected to the switch gear transport and configured to supply first electric power at the first voltage level from the switch gear transport;
- and
- a first transport comprising:
- at least one first transformer, at least one first drive, and at least one first electric prime mover, each being disposed on the first transport,
- wherein the at least one first transformer is electrically connected to the switch gear transport via only the first electrical cable, wherein the at least one first transformer is further electrically connected to the at least one first drive and to the at least one first electric prime mover,
- wherein the at least one first transformer is configured to step down the first electric power received at the first voltage level to a second voltage level that powers the at least one first drive, the second voltage level being less than the first voltage level, and
- wherein the at least one first drive is coupled to the at least one first electric prime mover.
A transport used with a switch gear for fracturing operations, the switch gear being remote from the transport and providing electric power to the transport via a cable, the transport comprising:
- a transport frame;
- an electric prime mover mounted on the transport frame;
- a drive mounted on the transport frame and coupled to the electric prime mover;
- an electrical connection disposed on the transport frame and configured to connect to the cable of the switch gear;
- and
- at least one transformer coupled through the drive to the electric prime mover and mounted on the transport frame, the at least one transformer being in electrical communication with the electrical connection and being configured to:
- receive the electric power at a first voltage level from the switch gear via the cable, step down the electric power at the first voltage level to at least one second voltage level less than the first voltage level, and supply the electric power at the at least one second voltage level to the drive and to the electric prime mover.
