A method, comprising:
- receiving, by a device comprising a processor, a channel line-up for an over-the-top media content system, wherein the channel line-up comprises live channels;
- determining, by the device, that a display associated with the processor cannot present a certain channel of the channel line-up;
- receiving, by the device, a preferred channel line-up for a viewer containing a portion of the channel line-up, wherein the preferred channel line-up excludes the certain channel;
- displaying, by the device, individual channels of the channels of the preferred channel line-up in a preferred order on the display;
- detecting, by the device, an additional viewer of the device;
- monitoring, by the device, a location of the processor while displaying the preferred channel line-up;
- determining, by the device, whether the location of the processor corresponds to a first channel exclusion zone that includes a public location, wherein first excluded channels associated with the first channel exclusion zone are specified by the viewer;
- determining, by the device, whether the location of the processor corresponds to a second channel exclusion zone, wherein second excluded channels associated with the second channel exclusion zone are specified by a media content service provider associated with the over-the-top media content system, wherein the second excluded channels are defined based on:
- a contract or a subscription, a black-out zone, or any combination thereof, and wherein the second channel exclusion zone is different from the first channel exclusion zone in terms of location;
- adjusting, by the device, the channel line-up by removing a first portion of the first excluded channels from the channel line-up based on the location of the processor corresponding to the first channel exclusion zone and retaining a second portion of the first excluded channels in the channel line-up based on the viewer engaging in additional steps to retain access to the second portion of the first excluded channels via the channel line-up;
- adjusting, by the device, the channel line-up by removing a first portion of the second excluded channels from the channel line-up based on the location of the processor corresponding to the second channel exclusion zone and retaining a second portion of the second excluded channels in the channel line-up based on the viewer engaging in additional steps to retain access to the second portion of the second excluded channels via the channel line-up;
- adjusting, by the device, the channel line-up in response to detecting the additional viewer;
- monitoring, by the device, channel selections of the preferred channel line-up when the preferred channel line-up is displayed;
- determining, by the device, from the monitoring of the channel selections, a frequently selected channel from the channel selections;
- generating, by the device, an updated channel line-up to include the frequently selected channel;
- proposing, by the device, the updated channel line-up to the viewer;
- obtaining, by the device and based on the proposing, an acceptance of the updated channel line-up from the viewer;
- and
- adding, by the device and based on the obtaining of the acceptance, the updated channel line-up to a list of channel lists available to the viewer, wherein the adding comprises replacing an older list of channels included in the list of channel lists with the updated channel line-up.
A media processor, comprising:
- a processing system including a processor;
- and
- a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
- receiving a channel line-up for an over-the-top media content system to be provided at equipment of a user, wherein the channel line-up comprises live channels;
- determining that a display device associated with the equipment of the user cannot present a certain channel of the channel line-up;
- generating a preferred channel line-up containing a portion of the channel line-up based on a user profile of the equipment of the user, wherein the preferred channel line-up excludes the certain channel;
- displaying the preferred channel line-up on the display device;
- detecting an additional viewer of the equipment of the user;
- monitoring a location of the equipment of the user while displaying the preferred channel line-up;
- determining whether the location of the equipment of the user corresponds to a first channel exclusion zone that includes a public location, wherein first excluded channels associated with the first channel exclusion zone are specified by the user;
- determining whether the location of the equipment of the user corresponds to a second channel exclusion zone, wherein second excluded channels associated with the second channel exclusion zone are specified by a media content service provider associated with the over-the-top media content system, wherein the second excluded channels are defined based on:
- a contract or a subscription, a black-out zone, or any combination thereof, and wherein the second channel exclusion zone is different from the first channel exclusion zone in terms of location;
- adjusting the channel line-up by removing a first portion of the first excluded channels from the channel line-up based on the location of the equipment of the user corresponding to the first channel exclusion zone and retaining a second portion of the first excluded channels in the channel line-up based on the user engaging in additional steps to retain access to the second portion of the first excluded channels via the channel line-up;
- adjusting the channel line-up by removing a first portion of the second excluded channels from the channel line-up based on the location of the equipment of the user corresponding to the second channel exclusion zone and retaining a second portion of the second excluded channels in the channel line-up based on the user engaging in additional steps to retain access to the second portion of the second excluded channels via the channel line-up;
- adjusting the channel line-up in response to detecting the additional viewer;
- monitoring channel selections of the preferred channel line-up when the preferred channel line-up is displayed;
- determining, from the monitoring of the channel selections, a frequently selected channel from the channel selections;
- generating an updated channel line-up to include the frequently selected channel;
- proposing the updated channel line-up to the user;
- obtaining, based on the proposing, an acceptance of the updated channel line-up from the user;
- and
- adding, based on the obtaining of the acceptance, the updated channel line-up to a list of channel lists available to the user, wherein the adding comprises replacing an older list of channels included in the list of channel lists with the updated channel line-up.
A non-transitory, machine-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
- providing a channel line-up to equipment of a user, wherein the equipment of the user adjusts the channel line-up according to a user profile associated with the equipment of the user as a preferred channel line-up, wherein the preferred channel line-up includes a portion of the channel line-up and excludes a certain channel of the channel line-up that cannot be displayed on a display associated with the equipment of the user, wherein the preferred channel line-up is presented on the display in a graphical user interface displaying individual channels of the preferred channel line-up in a customized order, and wherein the channel line-up comprises live channels for an over-the-top media content system;
- detecting an additional viewer of the equipment of the user;
- monitoring a location of the equipment of the user while displaying the preferred channel line-up;
- determining whether the location of the equipment of the user corresponds to a first channel exclusion zone that includes a public location, wherein first excluded channels associated with the first channel exclusion zone are specified by the user;
- determining whether the location of the equipment of the user corresponds to a second channel exclusion zone, wherein second excluded channels associated with the second channel exclusion zone are specified by a media content service provider associated with the over-the-top media content system, wherein the second excluded channels are defined based on:
- a contract or a subscription, a black-out zone, or any combination thereof, and wherein the second channel exclusion zone is different from the first channel exclusion zone in terms of location;
